Training for Helicopter Crew Members

November 14, 2011

Airforce Pilot Patrick Gruber teaches the Human Performance class

At the Alpine Rescue Center of Swiss helicopter rescue company Air Zermatt, the team of HF Solutions provided a training for AHEMS Crew Members (AHEMS = Alpine Helicopter Emergency Medical Service). After theoretical lessons about Situational Awareness, Coping with Stress, Communication in Critical Situations and Teamwork, the rescuers from Switzerland, Austria and Great Britain did a realistic training. On a grassy hillside they had to exit and enter a hovering helicopter and in rocky terrain a patient had to be prepared on a vacuum mattress, before being airlifted by a short haul operation. The combination of theory and practise, with immediate feedback, is the most effective way to gain awareness of the (both good and bad) human traits.
